Omnidirectional wheels enable completely unique maneuverability of chassis especially in confined areas.
The chassis has the ability to instantly change direction according to the operator - ie. for example, the possibility to move directly to the side (ie. crab movement), to move obliquely, turn on the spot arounf its own axis.
In comparison with the chassis using conventional wheels, the main advantage of omnidirectional wheels is a precise control of the direction of movement and smoth direction changes.
Omnidirectional wheels are primarily intended for use on high-quality surfaces, particularly in indoor environments. Depending on their construction and dimension parameters, they can operate without problems even on less quality surfaces and overcome obstacles in the form of thresholds or other similar terrain breaks.
Company ROBOTSYSTEM, s.r.o. has in particular developed omnidirectional wheels of Mecanum type conforming to the requirements of specific robotic applications.
There are available omnidirectional wheels with in-wheel drive, as well as single wheels for applications using the arrangement of drive in the chassis/platform.
